New York Mills Resident John Montrose Elected President of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Firemen’s Home

November 16, 2009

(NEW YORK MILLS, NY) – Oneida County veteran firefighter John Montrose, of New York Mills, has been elected to a two-year term as President of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen’s Home for retired volunteer firefighters in Hudson, NY.

The state-of-the-art hotel-style residence and medical facility has been maintained in various forms since 1892 by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), “the voice of the state’s volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel.”

Montrose has been a member of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York for 38 years. He joined FASNY in 1970 after 10 years as president of the New York Mills Fire Department, where he had also risen to captain in its firefighting ranks. During his term with the New York Mills FD, a new firehouse and two new rescue trucks were among his presidential accomplishments. Early next year Montrose will celebrate a major volunteer firefighter milestone. February 2010 marks Montrose’s 50th year as a life time active firefighter.

He was honored by the town of New Hartford with the Iron Man Award for his “inspiration, community involvement and dedicated service.” Montrose continues on his fire department’s Board of Directors; also, after long service in the Oneida County and Central New York volunteer firemens’ organizations, he remains dedicated to many varied committees.

Additionally, he is still active in village and town government and community affairs after a 37 year career as a Niagara Mohawk power company equipment operator and supervisor.

Montrose vows to make the Firemen’s Home “truly a Home Away from Home.”
