FASNY Issues Strong Memo of Opposition to Governor and Legislators

A recently issued memorandum has been sent to the Governor and all New York Legislators voicing strong opposition to language added to the Governor's budget that would provide for a dilution of the petition process necessary to dissolve or consolidate fire districts and other local government  entities.

By making it much easier to get approval for consolidation from only ten percent of the residents of a fire district, consolidation will become the standard method of resolving disputes between a local government entity and their fire department. FASNY has circulated this memo and is lobbying vigorously against the measure.

Most legislators contacted from Long Island to Erie County are now aware of this and have voiced opposition. Many have vowed to keep the language out of both the Senate and Assembly versions of the budget, which are the operative documents as we move forward in the state budget process.

It is important that FASNY members use the memo as a reference point in communications with the Governor's office and all legislators. The FASNY legislative office can provide addresses for those who wish to write, or go to the Senate and Assembly websites at www.Senate.State.NY.US or www.Assembly.State.NY.US for addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.  Click on the link below to fill out the memo online and email it to the addresses listed under “Legislation,” “Who are your representatives?” on this website. Your active participation is urged in order to maintain the integrity of the rank and file volunteer who seems to be forgotten by this budget proposal.
