Tell Governor Cuomo to Increase the VFBL Benefit

A bill that would improve the Volunteer Firefighters' Benefit Law for permanently disabled firefighters has landed on Governor Cuomo’s desk. We need FASNY members to write the Governor’s office and urge him to sign this vital bill. It will help to take care of those who have given their livelihoods in service to their fellow citizens, and ensure that they are properly cared for. The last increase came nearly a decade ago, and the current benefit has not kept pace with cost-of-living increases.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation recently brought together fire service leaders, firefighters, researchers and physicians for a Heart to Heart Conference to address the leading cause of Line of Duty Deaths – heart disease.

Apply for a FASNY Scholarship

The FASNY Scholarship Advisory Committee will award twenty $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors entering college in fall 2017. The awards recognize exemplary members of youth fire service programs who also contribute to their communities. Applications are due March 15, 2017.
